Plumbing Problems And Solutions

Plumbing system is to a building, what circulatory system is to the human body. Any fault in the system is sure to throw your life helter-skelter and make your life awful. While putting in place a good well-conceived and well-done plumbing system is important, maintenance and preventive measures taken to keep the system in good shape is even more important.

Clogged Drains

Case one

Your sinks tubs connected to particular branch line drains slowly than normal.

Reasons

Dumping food solid materials into your kitchen Bathroom drains.

Pouring greasy Sticky materials into your kitchen sink.

Pouring chemicals paints into the drains.

Improper Inadequate venting.

Solution

Use a plunger to de clog your drain. This will work for clogs of smaller size. If it still persists, call an expert. Home made solutions do not work for bigger clogs.

Clogs can be removed using various techniques. While a cable can be used to remove solid clogs and break through roots, High pressure water jetting is more effective for clogs due to sticky greasy materials.

Before using water jetting as option, It is important to determine the quality of the plumbing materials used, for, the high pressure used in the process will rip your pipes apart if they are of a inferior quality.

Check the vents provided for any visible blocks. Find out whether the venting is adequate for the fixture it serves. An expert could help you out in this area. If the venting is absent or inadequate, provide upgrade to surmount the problem.

Preventive Measures

Respect your toilet and kitchen sinks. Use them only for the purpose intended. Avoid unmindful dumping of solid wastes, Food materials, Greasy substances and paints chemicals into the sinks.

Use filters over the drains in your toilet and kitchen to trap hair and solid objects.

Ensure that air vents are provided in adequate numbers and sizes for all fixtures.

Case two

All the drainage lines of the building drain slowly and there is a backing of the drain water from the main drainage line.

Reasons

A block in the main drainage line. or

A block in the inlet outlet of the septic tank. or

A block in the distribution box. or

A block in the percolation pipes. or

The septic tank has frozen due to an abnormal low weather.

Solution

Use a snake or water jetting to de clog the main drain line. This is the work of an expert. He could, through his expertise, say whether the clog is due to solid waste or greasy substances or roots and use a suitable technique to de clog the same.

Check the inlet and the outlet of the septic tank for any blockage due to solid wastes, scum and so on. Remove the block and check for easy flow.

Check the distribution box located between the septic tank and the percolators. Remove blocks, if any.

Check the area around the percolators. See whether it is moist, swampy and stinky. It means that the percolation is not proper. In other works the soil is not absorbing the drain water at the rate of discharge. It could be either because you usage of water has increased of late due to more guests or the soil has become saturated due to moisture from other sources such as rainfall more than normal etc. Immediately enlist an expert, the problem requires instant care.

If the septic tank has frozen due to bad weather seek the help of an expert immediately. If an expert and the equipment needed are hard to find, use the septic tank as a storage tank till such time the tank haws by itself. Judicious use of water will help you hold on for some time. To avoid freezing of the septic tank in the future, winterize before the next winter.

Preventive Measures

Respect your Septic tank. It is designed for the disposal of organic wastes only. Avoid dumping inorganic and non bio degradable wastes. They are sure to block the normal functioning of the septic tank and spoil it beyond redemption.

Use filters over the drains in your toilet and kitchen to trap hair and solid objects.

Winterize the septic tank to prevent it from freezing in winter. Do the following

Insulate the Septic tank, distribution tank, percolators and all out door lines by spreading a layer f hay, grass, dry leaves etc.

During winter, resort to more than normal usage of water. Warmer the water, the better.

Empty the tank, if you are planning for a long outing.

Get expert help. Winterization is location, weather specific. A small investment here will save you from all hardships during the winter.

Leaks

Symptoms

Leaks in your plumbing system are not just unsanitary but is a tremendous loss of a scarce resource. More often than not leaks are detected much later than they had started and after much damage had already been done.

Try this test out to determine whether there is a leak in your plumbing system. Before you go to bed in the night, close the Main valve at the primary inlet of your plumbing system. Note the water meter reading. In the dawn, before you start using water, note the reading. If the reading has changed then, there is a leak in the system.

To locate the leak, repeat the procedure by keeping the main valve open and all but one of your ancillary line valves closed. If the reading shows a change, then the leak is in that particular branch line. Inspect the faucets for visible leaks and path of the lines for subtle hints of invisible leaks behind the plastered walls. If you still can not detect the leak. Contact us for expert care.

Reasons

While visible are due to faulty faucets fixtures, Invisible leaks can be due to cracks in your plumbing lines. The cracks happen due to a. Ageing lines giving off or b. Faulty winterization of you plumbing system.

Solution

Replace the faulty fixtures faucets.

If the leak is due to faulty line, replace the line. If your plumbing system is considerably old, you can think of replacing the lines in stages without waiting for the system to call for your attention and doing much damage to your cherished home.

Preventive Measures

Make proper use and take proper care of your faucets and other movable water outlets. Install only good quality faucets that will stand the wear and tear. Do not compromise on quality for price. Remember, a compromise on quality is a compromise on peace of mind.

Properly winterize your plumbing system.

Winterization.

What

Acclimatizing your plumbing system to withstand the test of hard winter is winterization.

Why

Plumbing systems are primarily intended to transport water to the locations of need from a centralized water storage facility. In the winter, as the temperature dips to appreciable lows, water freezes. The density of ice is more than that of water. Hence to accommodate water turned into ice, your plumbing system expands. When this expansion is beyond its elastic limit, it cracks wreaking havoc on your entire plumbing system.

Solution

Prepare for the winter ahead by properly acclimatizing your plumbing system. Do the following.

Insulate the drains outside your home.

Open the cabinets under sinks to facilitate circulation of warm air to avoid freezing.

In the temperature is harsh, allow water to flow through the lines in a trickle, when not in use, to avoid freezing.

If you are going out and if the plumbing system will not be in use for a long time close the main valve and drain all water form the system, to ensure that there is no water to be frozen.

Remember, winter is a testing time for your plumbing system. Take preventive measures or you may have to spend a fortune to restore the system back to normalcy. If you need more information, feel free to avail our expert care.

What You Can Do About Clogged Drains

A clogged drain can be a problem, and if it is really bad, you may even need to call a plumber. If you absolutely need to use the sink while waiting for the plumber to arrive, there are several things you can do. A drain is a very simple device, using gravity to draw liquids through the pipes from the drain to its ultimate destination. As long as where it starts is higher than where it ends, and the pipes are all fine, the only problem the drain runs into is something stopping it up.

All types of pipe have the same basic parts, a trap, a cleanout, and a stack. Traps are curved sections of a pipe that go down then up, to let solids settle so the liquid can pass. A cleanout is the section of the trap at its lowest, helping to simplify the search for a clog. Finally, there is the stack, the section of the pipe that rises after the trap. The stack allows gasses from decaying solids in the trap to escape, preventing pressure from building up in the pipes.

The most common way to clean a drain is through some type of liquid drain cleaner. Depending on the type of pipe and specific drain cleaner, the drain cleaner may damage your pipes. Before using a liquid drain cleaner, ensure that it is safe for your pipes. Also, while a drain cleaner may get rid of the clog, it won't scour buildup on the pipes, and the pipes could clog again even faster. So while it could be a good quick solution while waiting for a plumber, it is not a good permanent solution. After using drain cleaner, run hot water for five to ten minutes to flush the chemicals out of the pipes.

If you have recently poured fat or grease down a drain, that could be contributing to the clog. If your sink is clogged up, but still drains a little, you can try running hot water slowly down the drain. While this won't remove the rest of the buildup or clog, it may help water flow a little faster, letting you complete everyday tasks while waiting for a plumber to arrive. Even if grease and fat aren't the problem, this could help clear up a clog slightly.

Finally, you can try using a standard suction plunger and a long, flexible wire to temporarily clear out some of the clog. Remove any strainer from the drain and fill the sink one to two inches deep with water. Position the plunger directly over the drain and pump up and down a few times. Remove the plunger, take the wire, and push it down into the pipe a few times. Repeat those two steps a couple times, waiting a moment between attempts to see if the water in the sink starts draining.

How Water Softener Units Work

You may have wondered how water softener units work. Mineral laden hard water goes in, but soft, clean feeling water with no aftertaste comes out.

Water softeners help us avoid spotted dishes and appliances, clogged water heaters, scale on pipes, sinks, and other metal, as well as improving the cleaning power of our water. It's no wonder that so many people are curious about how a water softener unit works. These devices make sure that the huge amount of water we go through every day a lot easier to deal with.

Most water softeners use a process called ion exchange to remove minerals dissolved in hard water, producing cleaner water without any aftertaste. Some of the minerals that can be a problem in water are calcium, iron, sulfur, and magnesium.

Your water softener contains many small plastic beads, or a matrix referred to as zeolite. These are covered in ions of sodium. When the water flows through the beads or zeolite, the unwanted minerals swap places with the sodium. This leaves more sodium in the water, but removes other minerals. Eventually, the zeolite or beads have no more sodium ions, and must be regenerated.

Regeneration is an important part of how water softeners work. This involves soaking the beads of zeolite in a sodium ion containing solution. One very common solution used is common household salt - a strong brine is made to regenerate the softener. Once the beads or zeolite are regenerated, the remaining brine and the residue of the minerals can be flushed away. A single water softener unit can produce a lot of brine when it needs to recharge!

However, this method means that water softeners put extra salt into the water they produce. For people on low sodium diets, this can present a problem. Sometimes, alternate salts, like potassium chloride, are used to prevent this problem. Anyone who needs to limit their sodium and wishes to use a water softener should talk to their doctor about the additional minerals, sodium or potassium, that they may be consuming. A few water softener units don't use salts at all, but instead function by using charcoal filters or some other method to remove the undesirable minerals from our hard water. These are usually a lot more expensive than conventional water softeners.

Once your water softener has regenerated, it's ready to get to work again. Some systems automatically regenerate, and only need to be refilled with salt. Other systems, like portable water softeners, will function until they become depleted, then stop working until manually regenerated. No matter which method your water softener uses, it's important to maintain it properly so that it will provide years of effective service.

Problem Shower Plumbing Headaches

Leaky faucets, clogged shower heads, cold water instead of hot and poor drainage are all a part of the headaches associated with shower plumbing. Most of us do not want to deal with these problems and will call a plumber. On the other hand, we want to save a little money and may decide the job will be easy and try it ourselves.

By knowing a few simple plumbing facts, you might be able to fix the shower stall yourself. You will need the right tools, but some jobs can be done relatively easy. It all depends on your determination and ability to do some simple steps.

The Shower is Clogged

The problem most people experience in the bathroom is the shower clog. The first thing to check with the shower plumbing is the drain cap to make sure it is free of hair and other debris. In addition, the drain has an inside part that sometimes collects hair and debris that flows through the drain cap. You need to remove the cap and then check to see if the clog appears in this area. You can use a wire of some kind to pull the clog out of the drain.

If you discover that these steps do not clear the shower plumbing problem, you next would try the plunger to see if you can loosen and debris that could be farther down the pipe. After plunging the drain a few times, you can run water to see if you have loosened the clog and the water now drains. If not, you may need to try one more thing before calling for help. Try some Drano and follow the directions and you should clear the clog if it is nothing more serious than a clogged drain.

Shower Plumbing and the Shower Installation

If you want to, you can install your own shower and plumbing [http://www.i-plumbing.com/Basement_Plumbing/] without the help of a plumber. Once you have your shower picked out and the plumbing materials in order, you can begin the installation project. You usually receive instructions to follow when installing the shower and plumbing; therefore, you need to follow the directions systematically.

After you turn off your water supply, you can then begin installing the pipes and then check for leaks before sealing up the wall. Many people put a mirror or something over the opening for quick and easy access in emergencies. After the showerhead and all plumbing are installed, you are ready for the first run. Turn the shower plumbing on and see how things flow. All should be fine if you followed directions. It is not very hard to install and fix problems with shower plumbing as long as you follow directions.

The Reasons Why We Need Licensed Plumbers

When one has issues with leaky faucets or pipes, he or she often will call a plumber if they cannot do the job on their own. They are so convenient to us in our times of piping and plumbing need, but we often do not think this way. People usually forget about how important they are to them, as they believe that they are not important to day-to-day life.

Plumbers are important because they can fix pipes and other pipe-related issues that most people cannot do on their own. Many people would be completely lost without the aid of such a professional. He or she has a wide range of tools and has training in the various plumbing techniques. They may be needed if a shower pipe breaks and starts to spray everywhere. Or they may be called in if the sink pipes suddenly decide to break apart.

A plumber is probably called into houses most often for issues related to people's sinks or toilets. People will try to fix the problem with plungers when their toilets stop flushing, but this does not always solve the problem. A professional, on the other hand, has special tools that he or she can use to fix clogs and various other problems. When a plumber comes in and fixes a big problem like this, he or she can seem like a hero to the affected family. Life without a working toilet isn't too great.

Sinks, as mentioned above, are also important to fix. Clogs in sink drains may be near impossible for ordinary folks to fix on their own. Important items, like wedding rings, may also need to be fished out by plumbers. They can save precious articles like these and will make sure that everything is closed up properly afterward.

Piping can also be installed by plumbers. Without piping, modern society as we know it could not exist. Pipes are so important because they bring water into our homes and businesses and transport waste out of them. They create the sanitary conditions that we know and love. Without them, we also would not have easily accessible, clean water.

Piping makes it so that we do not have to use outhouses and wells anymore, if we choose not to. If someone chooses not to use pipes they do not have to, but they are an extremely important aspect in most of our lives. They make our lives more convenient and sanitary.

Plumbers usually do not get as much credit as they should. They are stereotyped, and yet they are so important for our everyday realities. Without them, we would not live with the conveniences that we have. We would have far more issues than we have today.

Maintenance is an important task to do in order to monitor the condition of a system or something. It merely protects the thing to get easily damaged. Likewise, home maintenance is very important too. This involves checking the drainage for some clogs, the water pipes, etc.

One of the common nowadays to most home is problems in the plumbing. To some remote areas, it is hard to call for an immediate help to a plumber if you are miles away with each other. And sometimes, calling for some short time help will not merely work instantly, so you have to call a plumber repeatedly. To lighten-up the load, you can do the plumbing yourself.

To be able to do some plumbing repairs you would need some supplies for it. Regarding it, you can look on local stores near you or search online for some options of products that you might need. Whole House Water Filters Are Not Equally Fashioned

Whole house water filters from different manufacturers are designed differently. Sizes, performances, and prices vary from one manufacturer to another. Some filters go through the rigorous testing and certification by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) International and/or other independent organizations and some are not.

You will likely be at peace with yourself if you buy a third-party certified water filter for your home. It can be reassuring to know that you bought a system that has been tested by other professionals beside the manufacturers.   Some whole house water filters can treat large flows while others can only treat small flows before you have to replace the filter cartridges.

The choice you make the first time you could determine how often you have to buy replacement filter cartridges.   Water filters are designed or certified to reduce one or multiple water contaminants. Some can reduce few chemicals while some can reduce a large number of chemicals in water. Mind you, because a filter is certified to reduce bacteria, chlorine taste and odor does not mean it can reduce sediment or iron in your water.

You have to read the labels very carefully to see if a filter is designed or certified to reduce any of the problems in your drinking water.   Prices for a whole house water filter could be high but not necessarily effective while a filter price could be low but performs better. The best approach to selecting a filter system to treat water for your home should be the evaluation of performance, certification, and how long the manufacturer has been in the filter business.

Copper Repipe and Leaky Pipes - Plumbers Are Best to Repair Any Plumbing Problems You May Have

Plumbing problems can cause you to have added stress, expense, and unhappiness in your life. Whether you live in a single family home, apartment, or have plumbing problems in your office, getting these issues resolved as quickly as possible is the most important thing on your mind.

Finding a plumbing company that is reliable, trustworthy, and knowledgeable is also something to think about. It seems like everyone has a story about a plumber who caused more damage than good. This typically happens when you wait until your situation is an emergency, instead of taking precautions and doing preventative maintenance of your plumbing system on a regular basis.

If your home is older than twenty five years or so, you may need to replace your zinc coated, galvanized pipes with copper repiping. If your water pressure is not what it used to be, having copper repipe installed by a professional plumbing company may be the answer.

Clogged drains are also a problem that must be addressed on a regular basis. When your sink or toilet is clogged up, nothing is as important as having it fixed right away. We take our plumbing system for granted, so it is upsetting when something does not work the way it is supposed to. Drains can become clogged with hair, grease buildup, coffee grounds, sediment, and grime.

Leaky pipes also seem to happen at the worst possible moment. You must call a professional plumber right away to keep from sustaining even more damage to your plumbing system. Until the plumbers arrive, turn off your water at the main water valve. This keeps the water from entering your home even faster, resulting in a larger problem than you originally anticipated.

The plumbers will assess the size and location of the water leak before they begin to make any repairs. They will usually wait until the area around the leak is clean and as dry as possible. By allowing the area to air dry, rather than absorbing excess water, the affected areas may warp or become moldy.

Before the plumbers arrive you may want to use some electrical tape to temporarily fix the leak, as long as it is a small one. Dry the area around the pipe with a towel to better allow for the electrical tape to adhere to the pipe. Begin about two inches away from the actual leak for best results.

Remember that any repairs you attempt to make are only temporary. It is always best to call in the professionals and plumbing repairs are no exception. Your home's plumbing system is more important than you may realize, so do not take it for granted. Instead, call your plumber and have them do a professional job that will last for years.

Plumber Work Details - What it Takes to Be a Plumber

Plumber work is something that is often taken for granted even though it takes education and training, hard work and a great deal of effort to master. The next time you find yourself pulling hair out of your shower drain, take a moment to think about how many plumbing jobs involve removing clumps of other people's hair, food and other things from pipes. You may find yourself feeling a new level of appreciation for your local servicemen and the work that they do.

Plumbing school is the first step to entering the world of pipes, drains and even sewage. Pipes and water systems are a lot more complicated than the average person realizes, and learning how to properly diagnose issues with them as well as how to resolve them, takes education and training. While many issues may seem simple to resolve, disassembling pipes without proper training in plumper work can lead to immediate or delayed complications. If you do choose to work on your own home improvements, it's important to make sure you research the repairs before getting started.

Plumbing jobs are often messy, complicated and involve dealing with things that other people could never stomach which is why the lack of appreciation for plumbers around the world is always shocking. While most jobs in the current technical climate revolve around computers, desks and office type environments, plumbers deal in dirt and grime. When your sink backs up, the tub clogs or your toilet needs replacing, a plumber is there to clear out the gunk or haul away your old porcelain bowl and replace it.

Plumber work includes anything from the kitchen, to the bathroom, to sewage lines or your pool outside. While not everything that plumbers work with is as disgusting as backed up sewage lines or plugged up toilets, even a kitchen pipe issue or a clogged up pool drain can be a nasty problem to tackle. Being a plumber requires a lot of dedication, motivation, skill and an iron clad stomach that allows you to take care of things that other people would rather ignore. Being a plumber is not just a job, but it's also a thankless art.

If you are looking to have some done, you can easily locate a qualified plumber by using the internet or the phone book. Chances are that your friends and family may be able to recommend a plumber as well if they own a home. Once you find a plumber that you get along with, you should develop an ongoing business relationship with them. A good plumber will help keep you up to date on maintenance, ways to cut your water bill and much more.

Whether you are looking for a plumber to install a new garbage disposal or to replace your old toilet with a more efficient model, make sure to thank them afterward for taking care of the plumber work in your home.

Tips For Plumbing A Basement In Clay Soil

Basement construction in clay soil poses several problems. Expansive soil can cause cracking in the foundation, basement walls and floor if proper precautions aren't taken. Natural movement caused by expansive clay soils also require special precautions to be taken when installing basement plumbing. Pipes can burst if plumbing is too rigid.

Floating walls keep the walls and floors from being damaged as the home moves with the expansion of clay soil. This allows the walls to move independently from the floor of the basement. The pipes need to be able to move upward with the floor but not push against the first floor of your home. The drainage pipes under the basement floor need to be able to breathe as well.

When you install bathrooms, laundry room, or a mudroom in the basement you need to allow for natural movement of clay soil. Installing flexible expansion couplings and expansion joints on basement plumbing will allow for this movement and keep the pipes from leaking at the joints or cracking.

Your pipes should ideally be new during installation. If you are working with pre-existing pipes make sure not to go from one type of metal to another. If you are using copper stay with copper pipes and the same goes for other metals. Take care to not to change the size of pipes accidentally. It is possible to go from one size to another but it is not always usually wise idea. You should also start with new pipes whenever possible. Older pipes can have lead solder break up while you are working with them and you do not want this to get into your water supply, even if it is for a shower and not drinking water.

Anywhere that you are attaching one length of pipe to another you need to add an expansion coupling. Expansion couplings are made of a synthetic polymer sleeve that slips over the ends of both pipes. Steel clamps are used to hold the coupling and pipes together. Once applied, the coupling will allow for a small amount of movement in the pipes. It is important to make sure you have the expansion couplings and not regular couplings as the expansion couplings are made to breathe with the home and the regular couplings aren't made to move.

When installing a shower you can use reverse floating walls to stabilize pipes in the basement and allow movement in the top of the pipes. You should put as much of the plumbing in the same area as possible and use the same wet wall. A chase should be included and access can be either along a wall or in the ceiling.

Flex lines are needed for water supply lines. The main water supply line should go into the chase and have flex lines attached in that area to the pipes used in the basement. The most logical place for the chase access panel is in the utility room along with the hot water heater.

As well as having expansion joints and flexible couplings installed the pipes there should be enough space between the pipes and the ceiling/floor to keep from having the pipes push into the ceiling as the ground expands with the changes in the moisture in clay soil.

Expansion joints will be needed for installation of ground water drainage pipes also. This can be done below the basement floor, above the foundation. Drains can be placed in the basement floor allowing moisture that does enter the basement to run into the drainage system and away from the home.

Repairing a Leaking Toilet

Let me explain how a toilet works. First when you go to flush the toilet a little arm pulls a rubber flapper up and lets the water drain into the toilet bowl. The water draining into the toilet bowl forces the old water out along with the number two or number one waste and extremities.

If the toilet sounds like it is running there is a good chance that the seal between the rubber flapper and the plastic rain at the bottom of the toilet is broken somehow. The sound you are hearing is water running around this ring and in to the toilet bowl.

This leak is actually causing no damage to the toilet itself but is wasting water. Hence the water bill will be a little higher if you don't fix the leaking toilet. The best way to find out if this is actually your problem is to take the toilet tank lid off. Then stick your hand down into the toilet bowl and press gently on the rubber flap.

If the water stops leaking or starts running faster this is your problem. Turn the water off to the toilet. There will be a shut off valve on the wall under your toilet bowl in the bathroom. After you turn the water off removed the plastic flap and examine it.

You will be looking for a warped toilet flap or of some sort or grooves on the flapper itself. Take the toilet flapper down to your local home improvement store and buy a new one. Go home and replace the new toilet flapper and this should solve 90% of your leaking toilet problems.

There is one more thing it could be. With the toilet tank lid off, check to see if water is overflowing into the little round plastic pipe. This plastic pipe should have a small hose running from the float valve assembly into it.

If the water is over flowing from the toilet tank into this little plastic pipe you will need to adjust the float.

First thing you will need to do is while the toilet is running lift up on the float lever arm. If the water stops you can simply bend the metal arm of the float lever. The purpose of bending the arm will force the float deeper into the water there for stopping the water from rising over the small tube in the center of your toilet.

There are few parts to a toilet and most parts can be purchased at your local hardware or home improvement centers. Toilet repairs like this can be made simple and the parts used to replace are inexpensive.

Happy Toilet Repairing.

Should You Try Plumbing Fixes On Your Own?

As with many things, it can be difficult to determine if you have a small or major plumbing problem. Trying to fix it on your own may or may not be a good idea.

The idea of "do it yourself" has a lot of appeal to homeowners. The reasons for this are many. It is possible to save the labor costs when you do the work yourself. There is a sense of pride and accomplishment. There are times when this is the right course of action, but there are times when it is not. When it comes to a plumbing issue it is important to have a good understanding of just what the problem is and the consequences of failure before you attempt any repair. One good idea is to have a good working relationship with a professional plumber. This relationship is good to establish before you need it.

If you are going to attempt to repair a plumbing problem on your own make sure you have a good idea of what you are capable of doing, and what you are not capable of doing. It is possible to do some research on most issues. The internet contains much advice and information. If you have established a good relationship with a plumber, it is also possible to contact him for some advice on how to proceed. The most critical issues will involve safety. This is especially true when the repair involves electricity or gas.

Understanding the consequences of failure involves knowing the impact on your household and the costs of fixing your mistake as well as the original problem. It is also important to understand the state and local codes that may apply to a repair project. These codes exist for a good reason, and mostly involve safety issues. Once again, your professional plumber could be a good source of information concerning code requirements. One last consideration is the availability of the proper tools. You should insure you have the right tools before the project is started. When you are half way through is a bad time to discover that you do not have the tools necessary to complete the job.

If you are going to do it yourself, troubleshooting involves the isolation of the problem based on physical clues. It may be the presence of water stains, or clogged up drains in sinks or toilets. The physical clues are often different from the true problem. Dealing merely with the external clue is akin to turning off a smoke detector without understanding why it is alarming and doing something about that. A plumbing trouble shooting guide can easily guide you through a list of clues and problems and give you suggested solutions.

Troubleshooting a plumbing problem is not unlike any other type of problem such as electrical or mechanical. It involves an evaluation of various clues, and a bit of trial and error. Yet it is always that essential first step in any repair process. Once you have a pretty good idea of just what the problem actually is, you can make the right decision. That decision might be to attempt the work yourself, or to call a professional plumber.

Don't Ruin Your Health Through Reverse Osmosis

It's ironic how many people try to ensure their health through reverse osmosis, because there are many aspects of these systems that are at best ineffective, and at worst detrimental to their health. The reverse system is effective at removing some contaminants, such as lead, arsenic and particulates. Yet many biological and chemical contaminants are not removed by these devices. In addition, home osmosis systems remove nutritionally beneficial minerals from water.

Reverse osmosis works by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane. Under normal circumstances water will flow through a membrane from a less saline solution to a more saline solution. This process is called osmosis. But when more highly saline water is under pressure, water flows instead from high to low salinity, increasing the volume of low salinity water. That is how the process works. The membrane allows water through, but not larger molecules such as salt and many other chemical compounds. It is one of the most popular means of desalinating sea-water and creating water that is suitable for industrial purposes, but it is not particularly suitable for producing drinking water. When home reverse osmosis systems bring this process into the home, they provide the consumer with a way to negatively affect their health.

As you can imagine the membrane is one of the most vulnerable aspects of this system. Unlike a carbon filter system, where the filter is replaced regularly, the membrane is not replaced. If the membrane is not cleaned regularly and thoroughly, it can become a breeding ground for microorganisms. Algae can also grow on the membrane, causing contamination of the resulting drinking water. In an industrial setting, the membrane is subjected to regular maintenance. In home reverse osmosis systems, cleaning is up to the home owner, who may not realize how important it is!

Another reason these systems are not optimal for your health is that they don't remove chlorine. Chlorine is a highly reactive chemical. That is one of the reasons it is used by water treatment facilities: it's poisonous, but to both germs and humans alike! After treatment, some chlorine remains in the water and is delivered to your tap. This residual chlorine is not removed by these systems unless they are fitted with an auxiliary carbon filter. So if you're trying to ensure your health water filtration, you might want to make sure you buy one with a carbon pre-filter, or even skip the reverse system altogether and just buy a carbon filter system!

Not only does reverse osmosis fail to remove some contaminants, it also removes too many essential minerals from our drinking water. Fresh water found all over the world contains minerals. There is no naturally-occurring fresh water source on the planet that is de-mineralized! We humans were designed to drink natural water and to fulfill some of our mineral needs with water. Long term consumptions of de-mineralized water may lead to mineral deficiencies and illness. In addition, many of the essential minerals removed by home reverse osmosis systems are alkaline, which leaves the water acidic. Regular consumption of acidic water can lead to bone and tooth demineralization as your body tries to compensate for the acidity.

So if you are trying to support your health through water filtration, maybe you should look at the facts and rethink your strategy! Home reverse osmosis systems are not the key to your health. There are many other types of home water filtration systems that will provide you with healthier drinking water.

Need a Plumber Service?

Sometimes a person is just in honest need of a good plumber. Don't be embarrassed, it happens to everyone, after all but did you know that a plumber service isn't just for weird leaks and the like? They also perform routine checks of a person's septic tank for a fee. There are many reasons why your licensed plumber should always be on speed dial, this is simply one of them.

A plumbers work is generally run by a licensed plumber or a master plumber. It is usually fairly easy to find plumber services in an area. In fact, a person would have more than a few plumber services to look at when deciding on which one would work for them.

A plumber provides many different types of maintenance service work including the installation and repair of pipes, fittings and fixtures. An emergency plumber can also provide service to other plumbing equipment that is used for water distribution, waste water disposal and venting in various areas such as residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings.

Those that go into a plumber working service usually have to do over five years of schooling and other outside work before they are allowed to apply to take the test to become a licensed plumber. Surprisingly, despite this difficult task, it is quite easy to find a plumber. Most often a service of plumber will be a small, family owned business instead of one of the larger ones as the smaller businesses often outnumber the larger ones.

In fact, most plumbers also offer septic tank pumping services as well as septic tank replacement services. However, not every plumber service does this and they would specify their specialties in their ads and if they do not, questions are generally welcome. Often times, it is required by state and/or county law that a septic tank is changed or cleaned every certain number of years, with that number varying from place to place.

If you are looking to find a emergency plumber service in your area, it is best to ask around. Generally a neighbor or family member or the like would not hesitate to give you his or her recommendation on a good plumber service. It is important to listen to recommendations as they can help you narrow down the many plumber services offered by licensed plumbers in your area, which otherwise would be somewhat difficult to both find a plumber and narrow down one that you liked.

Plumbers services may not make up the largest part of the economy nor may they be highly looked upon but neither changes the fact that society needs a good number of licensed plumber and plenty of good plumber service.

Los Angeles Plumbers - Clogged Drains in the Kitchen and Bathroom Call For Plumbing Experience

When you have a clogged drain, it may seem like your entire house is off balance. Whether it is a clogged sink, in the kitchen or bathroom, a clogged toilet, or a clogged drain in the shower or tub, plumbing repairs need to be handled as soon as possible.

Many people attempt to unclog their own drains when a problem arises. Whereas this may solve the problem temporarily, in the long run it will be best to contact professional plumbers to make sure your home and its plumbing system will work properly for the long term.

Excess hair in the bathroom sink, tub or shower is usually to blame when the plumbing becomes clogged. Many people will use a wire coat hangar or other household item to try to pull the hair out of the drain. This usually ends up making a big mess in the bathroom, and the clog will still be there. Using a plunger may also work temporarily, but again you will want to bring in the plumbers to clear everything up and get your pipes back on track.

If the bathroom sink is clogged up, the plumber will get under the sink and remove the trap. The trap is the u-shaped section of pipe under the sink. If they cannot locate the clog in the trap, the plumbers will go further down the line and use a cable auger, more commonly referred to as a snake. This process will not only locate the clog, but clear it out as well. Shower, bathtub, and toilet clogs can also be cleared out in a similar way. In any case, make sure to trust your plumber with these important repairs in your home.
